30. Binding Arbitration
144 Words a Day for 365 Days (a writing challenge brought to me by my friend Holly Li)
If I am going to be completely honest, and I don’t see a reason not to be, I couldn’t really tell you what binding arbitration is. I am certain I’ve heard the term, and if I’ve used it, it was done so improperly. Mustering a definition: agreeing to settle an issue outside of court, allowing impartial actors to decide your fate, and foregoing your right to appeal said decision.
While I have never dabbled in the act, I reckon it’s not not similar to airing my personal affairs to random/just-met friends. Opening up a vulnerable cavern and inviting these strangers to take a look around. Effusing my statement and awaiting a verdict as the jury undergoes internal deliberation with the limited facts they’ve received.
Left to accept whatever off-base advice or unsatisfactory conclusion they come to. Silently resenting my refusal for an appeal.
